Our Work

Developing Critical Consciousness

In this research, we seek to understand the development and impact of critical consciousness and cultural humility, and decolonized and liberatory practice in individuals and institutions. We are interested in the predictors of critical consciousness development and the impact of critical consciousness, and decolonized and liberatory practice in academic and clinical contexts.

Black Identity and Experience

This line of scholarship explores intersectional Black identity and lived experience. Broadly, this work centers the influence of ethnicity, immigrant status, gender and sexual identity, and social class on the psychological outcomes of Black people. One important avenue of this work is focused on the influence of racialization and ethnic identity on the psychological experience of first- and second-generation Black immigrants to the United States.

Wellness and Liberation

In this line of research, we examine the path to liberation, wellness, and healing for people from marginalized and subjugated groups. We are exploring the impact of the dismantling of oppression at the systems, interpersonal, and intrapersonal levels, on the psychological experience of wholeness and liberation among people from minoritized communities.
